September is National Yoga Month!

Yay! It's September! That means a promise (or hope in Houston's case) of cooler weather and changing leaves. Do you know what else it means? National Yoga Month!!! Yup, you read that right, September is National Yoga Month. If you aren't as excited as I am, here is why you should be...

  • Yesterday (Labor Day) was Houston's Free Day of Yoga.  If you missed out, stay tuned for next years, because it. was. a. blast! I ended up teaching, not one, but TWO classes this year! The first one was an impromptu class in the park, which for all who were there, it ended up being a Hot Vin (MAN was the sun up and out!!! Good thing I wore my sunscreen and brought plenty of water!) The next class was a slow flow just before sunset. Talk about IN.TENSE. I hadn't taught a slow flow in a while and so teaching one, after teaching my "Hot Vin" earlier in the day was EXHAUSTING! But my yogis were good sports, trucked through it, had a blast and in the end we all ended our Labor Day on a great note!!

    • Sad you missed our classes? No worries! Our next Yoga At The Park is October 6 at 8 AM! Check-out our Facebook invite and RSVP if you will be able to make it! (side note: I hate writing negative things because I don't like harboring negativity in my life. But I strongly strongly strongly request that you only say yes if you really plan on attending. I understand that things come-up, so feel free to change your RSVP at anytime. Although the class flow will not change, I try to make sure I have enough props and surprise goodies for all who attend my class. So, please help me avoid waste by showing-up when you say you will or contacting me if you can't).
  • My super sweet mama was reading her Sunday Newspaper when she came across a Tuesday Morning advert that was advertising Yoga gear on the CHEAP!! The specials are good for September 7-9 so go check out a Tuesday Morning near you this weekend!
  • 10% off all month on all prepaid and booked private sessions
  • 10% off on all yoga mats at our store from September 10-20!
So now, tell me September isn't going to be SUPER AWESOME! I hope everyone enjoys September and participates in as many classes as possible. I'll be sure to post about any public classes I will be teaching as they become available.

I hope you all have an OM-azing day! Here is a fun info-graphic to get you through the month!

Chapter 2

So my workshop has come and gone and all I can keep thinking is... what now? For months I have been putting so much thought, energy and effort into it.  I have been contacting vendors (Quick shout out to all the vendors who participated!! Zoe's Kitchen, Whole Foods, My Fit Foods, European Wax Center, Bare Escentuals, Sports Authority, Massage Envy, FitGirl Casi, Sun Rider, Xtreme Lashes, Jamba Juice) , researching (you would not BELIEVE how many articles I read to get solid facts that I can reference, versus the accumulated information I have stored in my noggin), writing and rewriting my speech, writing and rewriting my flow, scrutinizing over music, trying to make sure that from the moment the women enter into the workshop to the moment they left, they felt welcomed, loved and enlightened

As with any first event for a company, things of course did not go bump free the day of. For one, the weather was not in our favor and so several ladies chose to not fair the nasty down pour.  Yet, the few who did, were so wonderful, sweet and understanding.  I was truly blessed to be surrounded by so many women who I felt I probably could learn more from, than them learn form me.

I genuinely hope that each one of them knew how much I loved having them there. That I did, am and will always do my best to be there for them as a resource for whatever questions they may have whether it be yoga, health or just personal harmony.

So, now I can continue with the beginning of the rest of my life on this yoga journey.  I do not have a workshop planned for the near future, which is probably good. Sometimes when you give so much of yourself to one thing, you let other things fall behind.  I noticed this started happening with me and the family. So, here is to me coming back to my usual routine: spending more giggly, tickling mornings with the little man, tackling new and challenging yoga postures to make me a better instructor and to learning more about myself and respecting my differences each and every day.  Sometimes its ok to take a break and let your happiness lead you.  Its what we did when we were children and look how great we all turned out :)

Tingling with excitement

Photoshoots! Branding! and Websites! OH MY! I have had such a busy last few weeks its been unreal!

First off, I OFFICIALLY graduated from YTT training!! WOOHOO!! I can't wait to get the certificate in the mail so I can frame it! Second, we got the website up and running, picked up our first shipment of t-shirts, got our business cards delivered and had our first photoshoot!  To say its been CRAZY is an understatement!!!

But the clock is ticking and we are... SEVEN days away from the workshop!!! EEK! We are so so so so SO excited! We have so many awesome vendors participating with great raffles to boot! And to top it all off, i have an AWESOME group of ladies helping me out that day! Seriously, so much love and support seems un-HEARD of!! But  it's real and it's here and I'm being surrounded by it. The only thing I can think to do is stop and thank God for all my blessings!

Unfortunately, with this much excitement, its inevitable for lack of focus to arise.  Lucky for me, and those around me, I can always fall back on my trusted meditation. Now, I don't meditate the way many people view it. I don't sit there trying to "empty my mind" and pray that the thoughts will go away. Because if you know me, you know THEY WON'T!  My words are a mile a minute verbally and 1000x that mentally. What I have found that works for me is following a prayer meditation. So I sit in a quite place in my house, turn all electronics off, come to my breath and just start reciting verses from the Qu'ran.  It's like magic how my body just relaxes into it and calms down and makes me feel revived. Sounds amazing right? Well, it is!! Want to try it? Yoga Journal has a pretty good article on seated meditation. I invite you to read it and try out the technique for a week. You will be amazed at the benefits you feel from just sitting there and cutting yourself off from all the outside stimulation of cell phones, TVs, emails, whatever... Let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

excited mantra prayers,

The Heat is On...

Yeah so it LITERALLY is on... it's like 80+ degrees outside, sheesh! Funny enough I'm not feeling it anymore, YAY super humid yoga studios!! :)

Anyways, I went to my yoga study group today to only realize that there was a WHOLE OTHER BOOK that I didn't read for our homework. How did that happen??  Luckily, I am at least really enjoying the book I am reading now.

[Book of the Moment (BoM)]
So where has this brought me? It's helped me get to that point of realization about what matters to me and that mind over matter is not just a saying, its a reality. Go ahead and read the book and let me know what you think!!

PS: I drafted this post forever and a day ago, but got sick, started working on my workshop (more on that next post) and now here we are!

Books and sunshine,

Let's start at the very beginning...

Life can come at you fast... so it's important to take the time to breathe. These days that means yoga breathing for me.

Rewind 10 months... After doing the whole corporate world thing for a few years, and then getting preggo, hubs and I decided that mommy-dome and stilettos and suits were not going to mix well for us. So after a 14 hour day at the office and a very sad goodnight to my then 4 month old, I called it quits for my accounting job and decided to become a full-time mommy, housewife and super hero :)

Enter my post-baby body... any new mommy can attest to the sensations that arise when you try to squeeze back into those pre-baby jeans. It's all to close to a horror film if you ask me. After months of going to the gym (thanks to my amazing MIL who watches little Z 3 hours in morning so i can sweat it out) I wasn't getting results fast enough... that is when I decided to take a breath and look deeper into my 3rd eye (a little yoga humor, do you like? :) )I've been practicing yoga off and on for about 11 years and I decided that I would finally become an Om chanting, mat toting incense burning (totally optional... bleh) yogi!

This new life is an exciting one. I'm loving every step of the journey. Hopefully you will enjoy my chronicles of mommy-hood and yoga mats :)

Baby hugs & yoga Mats,
